Geological Field Trip to Tung Ping Chau

2025-03-15

Around 30 students participated in a field trip to Tung Ping Chau, organized by the Geography Panel through the Geopark School Programme of the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark.

During the trip, the students explored various geological features, including the stack at Cham Keng Chau, the uplifted stack at Keng Lau Shek, wave-cut platforms and sea cliffs. They also investigated differential erosion at Lung Lok Shui and discovered plant fossils, sparking discussions about the sedimentary environment when it was formed approximately 55 million years ago.

The trip provided the students with an engaging, hands-on learning experience, deepening their understanding of the formation of coastal landforms, sedimentary processes and the rich geological heritage of Hong Kong.
